Having a job in the food service industry can be very tiring. Delivery guys, waiters and crew must be treated with respect, much as they do with their customers.
Last week, a viral photo of a certain Jay Bee boasted on social media that he intentionally delayed and fooled the rider so he can avoid paying for his order. According to one of the biggest companies in the Philippines providing job opportunities not only here but also jobs in Australia, China, Middle East, United States - the report submitted by their Metro Manila branch matches the account reported. This was confirmed by Arline Adeva, who has a job as public relations director in the said company.
Many people were asking whether the account was true or if it's just a hoax. But the validation from the PR of the said company just made it certain that there was indeed deception. The customer named Jay Bee became subject of ridicule and bullying, even to the extent of maligning Ateneo Medicine faculty because of a sorely pronounced post.
According to the report from the fast food chain, the rider who refused not to be identified arrived at the building reception at 12:50 am which is just in time for the delivery threshold. According to him, the building receptionist called the customer for the delivery. In his account, Jay Bee admitted he intentionally delayed answering the receptionist's call and that it was only after a minute that he answered it, so the rider would be deemed late.
The customer immediately demanded for a gift certificate upon complaining the rider was late. According to Rappler, he's the account of the rider:
The probe which Jollibee conducted after the controversial post made rounds on social media sites revealed the following details:
- The transaction was recorded on July 1 at 12:28 am wherein a customer placed the following order: Champ value meal (with regular fries and drink), spaghetti value meal (with regular drink) and one chocolate sundae via our 8-7000 Jollibee Delivery hotline.
- A call center agent advised the customer that the total bill is P266.20.
- He was also informed about Jollibee Delivery’s service guarantee policy which states that if the products are not delivered at the lobby of the delivery address within 20 minutes (based on retail trade area coverage) after the call was completed, he will be given P200 worth of Jollibee gift certificates as goodwill.
- The time of completion of call at 12:31 am was synchronized by the agent with the customer.
This is also the reason why Jollibee made their official statement.
Because of the incident, netizens dug deeper as to the identity of Jay Bee and found out that he is actually a Cebu Pacific bagger boy, not an Atenean doctor that he claims to be. He was also involved in an estafa case and is currently living in with his boyfriend.
